Hi everyone,
There is a festival at Newstead house on 11th July, Saturday as part of Q150 program.
Queensland separated from NSW in 1895 as a independent state. On 10 July 1859, the steamer Clarence arrived in the Port of Brisbane with a large banner lining the side of its hull which proclaimed 'SEPARATION'.
This moment in History will be re-created on Saturday 11 July 2009 with a Community Garden Party at historic Newstead House from 10am to 4pm. Admission will be free to the event and to Newstead House, however there will be a charge for teas, craft etc. A pageant of Fashion has been planned, historical vignettes will be produced, there will be a free concert, historical re-enactments and the opening of new displays within Newstead House.
Newstead House is approx. 15 minutes drive by motor vehicle from Brisbane’s CBD. Brisbane City Council buses pass the entrance to Newstead Park. Alight at Stop 12 inbound and outbound. Bus timetable information available from Translink 13 12 30. River City Cruises also cruise to Newstead House twice daily. Please check on Translink website for route and time table if you take public transport. It is a good idea to have a look on our website to see who is coming on that day before you go so you could easily find us.
I will go there at 1:00PM. But feel free to go in the morning or drop by anytime in the afternoon. My number is 0423626460.
Cheers,
Laura
